Since the early 1990s we have been running a local office in Bishkek to deliver procurement and training services within Kyrgyzstan and throughout the neighbouring Central Asian region. Several high profile programmes have included economic rehabilitation, social safety, institutional strengthening and revenue enhancement.
Our procurement has extended to the environment, energy, telecommunications, health, agriculture, transport, mining and metallurgy sectors. A programme funded by Japan saw us supply trolley-buses to Bishkek, helping to resolve public transportation problems in the Kyrgyz capital.
In setting up a regional banking training centre, we have helped to establish local finance and a banking market.
We are currently improving public financial management systems and developing emergency preparedness and disaster hazard mitigation capacity through partnership with public institutions, thus helping to develop their human resources.
